Applying for Accreditation

APPLICATION
Have you considered accreditation?
Accreditation is a seal of approval that assures quality in interpreter preparation. Accreditation makes sure that interpreter education programs prepare new interpreters to have the training that allows them to enter the field ready to interpret effectively. Accreditation processes provides a framework that encourages interpreter preparation programs to continually self-assess and conduct evidence-based analysis of their programs and their efficacy. These evidence-based shifts, rooted in continuous improvement, are helping to ensure that preparation programs are more likely to produce successful interpreters.
Next Steps:
The following provides a brief explanation of the steps involved in achieving accreditation.  Programs seeking reaccreditation (occurs every 10 years), follow the same process outlined below, and pay the same fees.
  1. Applying for Candidacy Status*: Interpreter Educator Programs need to apply and submit the following:
    1. a letter of intent,
    2. a completed CCIE Application For Candidacy, and
    3. a one-time non-refundable Application Fee (see Fee Schedule). CCIE will review the submitted materials to determine if the program is sufficiently prepared to begin the Self Study Review Process. Programs will be informed if they have achieved Candidacy Status.
  2. Self Study Process & Self Study Report: Programs achieving Candidacy Status will begin their Self Study Review Process. Within 12 months of receiving Candidacy Status, programs will submit the final Self Study Report which contains the necessary documentation in accordance with the CCIE Standards.
  3. Peer Review of the Self Study Report: A team of raters will review the Self Study Report and make a recommendation to CCIE. If the materials submitted are deemed satisfactory, a site visit will be scheduled for the fall or winter.
  4. Site visit: An onsite team will visit and assess the program and subsequently submit their findings and recommendations to the CCIE. The CCIE will make the final decision regarding accreditation status.

* To be eligible to apply, a program must:
  1. have regional accreditation,
  2. have a capstone internship/practicum component and
  3. have graduated at least three classes.
